ANTONI TAPIES HAS PASSED AWAY

The great painter Antoni Tàpies died yesterday in Barcelona, he was one of my favourite artist, I dedicated two of my post in this blog to him and his Foundation, here you have the links:

MIES VAN DER ROHE PAVILION

The German Pavilion during the Barcelona International Exhibition 1929 was designed by Mies van der Rohe. It was a very important sample of modern achitecture dismanteled at the end of the event in 1930.
The contrast between colors of the marble walls, the use of chrome faced steel columns, the simplicity and purity of lines, are characterisitc of the construction.
In 1986 the reconstruction of the German Pavilion was finished in the original site.

PAVELLON MIES VAN DER ROHE

En Montjuic tenemos una pequeña joya de la aquitectura contemporánea, el pavellón de Alemania para la Exposición Universal de 1929.
Diseñado por Mies Van de Rohe y construido el 1929. Fue destruido durante el 1930,  es un ejemplo claro de arquitectura efímera, y también de los orígenes de las arquitecturas que triunfarán durante el siglo XX y hasta la actualidad.
En 1986 el Ayuntamiento de Barcelona finaliza la reconstrucción. Actualmente se encuentra abierto al público.
La simpleza de sus líneas, la nobleza de materiales, el juego cromático que se establece con los mármoles, contrastan totalmente con los edificios eclécticos, como el Palacio Nacional, que se encuentran a su alrededor.
