THE HOLLY FAMILY: GAUDI'S DREAM WILL BECOME REALITY SOON

The "Sagrada Familia" is the Antoni Gaudi's unfinished master piece. It is an expiatory temple, that means that the church can only be built with the donations of the people. That is the reason why Sagrada Familia is also known as The Churh of the Poors.
The Association of Devots of Saint Joseph started the Holly Family project in 1882, and Gaudi was in charge after 1883. There has been different rythmes in the process of construction of the Temple, in 1897 there was a very important donation and Gaudí went on with his own project,  during the XX century the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) stopped the works for nearly 20 years. After 1950's they followed the construction, and today the Holly Family is the most visited monument in Barcelona.

Nowadays there are two important facts that determinate the present of the construcion of the Sagrada Familia:

1. Some weeks ago the Pope confirmed his visit to the Sagrada Familia the 7th November 2010, to bless the central nave of the Temple.
2. The 26th March 2010 they started the works for built a tunnel for the fast train, a few centimetres in front of the main facade of the Sagrada Familia. The people in charge of the Sagrada Familia construction are very worried beause the vibrations of the works and the trains can affect the structure of the Temple.

So we are now in a very important moment in the process of construction, we will see what is going on...

EL REFUGI 307

Al Carrer Nou de la Rambla de Barcelona

El Poble Sec és un dels barris de Barcelona, està situat als peus de Montjuïc i té més de 125 anys de història vinculada al port, a la muntanya de Montjuïc, al desenvolupament industrial i a la modernització de Barcelona.
És en aquest barri emblemàtic on trobem el Refugi 307, un bon exemple de la defensa passiva que va realitzar la ciutat durant la Guerra Civil, cal dir que és durant aquesta guerra que comencen els bombardejos indiscriminats de població civil, i degut a aquest fet a la ciutat de Barcelona es van construir més de 1.400 refugis en dos anys.
El refugi consisteix en 200 metres de túnels amb una alçada de 2,10 metres i una amplada que oscil·la entre 1,5 i 2 metres. Té tres accessos i va ser excavat amb l’esforç dels veïns que es van implicar a la seva construcció. Concebut per protegir a la població dels atacs aeris, el Museu d'història de la Ciutat ha obert el Refugi 307 com a centre d'interpretació`per tal de mostrar la crueltat de les guerres i les seves conseqüències.
