The Ramblas is the most popular street in Barcelona, it cuts the Old Town from Catalonia Square to Columbus Memorial Monument, it is also the link between the old port and the modern city. Rambla means in arab language torrent of water, and until the XVIIIth C there was a water torrent coming from Collserola. This pedestrian avenue is always full of people, day and night, nad it became one of the symbols of the city.
Next to Catalonia Square is shopping area, you are going to find all kind of shops, by the Columbus Monument you can visit the marina of Barcelona, the Maritim Museum inside the Medieval Yardship or stroll in the old port over an small boat called Golondrinas. In the middle of the Ramblas you can visit the Mercat de la Boqueria, a traditional food market also one of the highlights in Barcelona.
