The MMCAT is a beautiful Museum inagurated two months ago in the heart of Barcelona, near to Gracia Avenue and Catalonia Square, in the middle of the "Eixample" (the extension of the city).
In this Museum we have the opportunity to see one of the most important private collection of works of Catalan Modernism.
This museum show us wood works by Joan Busquets, Gaspar Homar, Antoni Gaudí..., also has paintings and sculpture by Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusiñol, Joaquim Mir, Josep Llimona...
In the first floor the furniture collection is a wonderful surprise, it is a meaningful look of what should be inside of the great modernist buildings of the "Eixample", like La Pedrera, Batlló House, Atmetller House, or Casa Calvet..., and it can complete perfectly the visit of the outside and the facade of the modernist buildings of the city.
Coffer by Joan Busquets, it was a gift to Maria Cristina the Queen during the Universal Exhibition 1888
In the basement of the building there is the second part of the exhibition, a nice collection of paintings, sculptures, and stained glass windows.
Stained glass window designed by Joaquim Mir
The first Holly Communion by Josep Llimona, a sample of simbolic art, we can see the young at right before the communion, the young girl at left after the communion, in peace.
The visit of the MMCAT is a good way to approach yourself to the Barcelona of 1900, it is also an opportunity of imaging how the life should be one hundred years ago, in a city in process of transformation.
